New SwiftUI video available to Patreon subscribers.

Yep it took a while but I have finally edited and published the next video in my SwiftUI series. Let’s build some models ready for data.

OK this is the must watch YouTube playlist for anyone that wants to get the most out of Ferrite for the iPhone and iPad. I learned so many things in just minutes that I never even noticed were in the app.

Hey iPhone / iPad app builders it’s 2020. Make a landscape version of that app already! Just saying :)

The Welcome Episode

It all starts with nothing, or in this case an episode zero. Something that is almost the birth cry of every podcast.

So in this short introduction I will say a little about who I am, what I do and what this is all going to be about.

The short version, Web and App development. Gaming, design, user interaction and producing content in many forms including how I make podcasts and videos to share with the World.

Twitter: @UIBuzz

Yep you noticed, well done. I changed the site name from Peter Witham to UIBuzz as that is my domain. I’m also updating some of the branding in preparation for trying out those microcast features.

Let’s get ready to talk!

Spent some time processing the last photos I took before the lock downs, the idea is to show the effect that our current situation with Covid-19 is having on the populous.

Unity event system for broadcasting and listening is a great way to not have a bunch of references between gameobjects having to be set up. I have to admit if it wasn’t for me using this approach in Flash for so many years and now JavaScript and Swift, I’d probably be lost.

Paying the price of procrastination, it’s been a while since I worked in Unity & wrote C# code.

I’m having to look up the most basic of things to remind myself how to do them. Lesson learned, don’t leave things too long before spending a little time with them.

SwiftUI and State Programming

Just finished streaming another coding session.

SwiftUI and State is the problem of choice to solve this time, it actually turned out to be less code than I thought, even though I did screw it up a bit at first. But hey, I’m learning SwiftUI just like everyone else.

It says mature audiences, but I promise I was not driven to swear in this video when my code did not work :)

Fridays feel really weird at this point, normally you get excited because it’s the weekend. But right now all the weekdays and weekends just blur into one when you work from home and stay at home.

I’m making the most of it though with new videos and blog posts.

I have to say, I’m rather liking the newer Microsoft Edge browser on Windows, Mac and even iOS. It is working rather better than Safari is for me right now on macOS 10.15.4.

Never thought I’d be saying I like a Microsoft browser again, well done on turning that one around and using a better engine! desktop streaming app testing on Windows. It is not as fully featured as say OBS or Streamlabs but when it comes to getting you set up easily without lots of math and settings, they nailed it.

Here’s a highlight from tonights World of Warcraft stream. I went with all the default settings except for the audio levels that needed some adjusting.

Darn you social distance

Today might be the first time that quarantine started to get to me, the weather outside is great and these four walls are starting to get smaller by the day, this is all starting to feel an awful lot like a Twilight Zone episode.

I’m thinking I need to sideline my personal projects for a couple of days. Once my work day is over I need to just kick back a bit and go with the flow to recover/discover where my energy went.

Hang in there folks!

Updated Unity and dusting off some game projects, it’s been too long and I need to keep my brain sharp stuck in isolation is making it way too easy to get lazy.

Live Stream Highlights - macOS Programming Fixing a Bug

Here’s the highlights of last nights live stream where I work on an attributed string display bug in my macOS application. Yep, even us professionals get it wrong some times and have to resort to trial and error, or to quote myself in the video

“What do you know, it worked!”

How to use Xcode 11 and GitHub together.

Setting up Xcode 11 to work with GitHub and repositories is much easier than previous versions. In this video I’ll walk you through setting it all up and getting started.

Since SwiftUI came out I have been looking for a solution to multiline text input. Thanks to this wonderful Swift Package on GitHub I have now found one. Works great with iOS applications.

New CompileSwift Podcast Episode: WWDC20

In this episode I talk a little about what we know for WWDC20 this year and the changes due to the current situation around the World.

Plus I talk about why you need to become a Swift Subscriber and get exclusive content made for my Patreon members.

For those now working from home and needing a good monitor. I use this one on my PC and Mac’s. I could not be happier with it.

It has two inputs and I can just switch between two machines at the push of a button. The two USB ports and audio out are also super useful.

iPadOS Get's a Cursor

Yep, it finally happened without the need to use accessibility or any other work arounds. The iPad is getting cursor support to finally make a serious stab at replacing the laptop for many users.

Here’s the video right from Mr Hair himself, Craig Federighi

I think people will get used to this new way in very little time and the best part we don’t have to buy something new to use it assuming you have a device that runs iPadOS 13.

It should be arriving towards the end of March and I for one, cannot wait to start using it.

Interesting news from the most well known coding repository. GitHub has acquired NPM which I’m not sure yet but feel this might be a good thing.

Diablo 3 Season 20 is here!

That means streaming time, here’s my grind from 0 to 38 for a Monk. Plenty more to come as it’s just the first day of the season, yay.

The fun of moving a domain with G Suite Email

Oh how I hate having to repoint a domain name.

Today I finally repointed to it’s new site and host on Netlify. Which was all fine, except it mean’t that I had to battle MediaTemples DNS zone files and name servers.

Which in turn was also complicated by using G Suite for email through MediaTemple.

The Web site went fine, then I noticed email had stopped working, so I had to go back and fix that. The good news, no lost email but gosh it’s so annoying to move things around.

Hopefully it’s all settled now, but it means having to wait for DNS to update around the World and that means patiently waiting to ensure it all worked out right.

It is going to be very interesting to see how all the remaining conferences handle the COVID-19 situation. So far it seems everyone has cancelled, we are still waiting to hear what Apple plan’s but I have to believe it will not be ‘business as usual’ at this point.
